Chapter 5 Socialization

I’m going to briefly tackle this subject, not because I want to, but because I’ve been accused time and time again of depriving my children of a good social understanding. Well-meaning people suggest and even argue that by not allowing my children to mix with children their own age on a daily basis will miss out. Miss out on what? Peer pressure, unpleasant language, bad habits and promiscuous behaviour? The fact that tens of thousands of families across the world have chosen the full-time responsibility of educating their children at home indicates the seriousness of parental concerns with the current schooling system. The socialization factor will always be a major concern for most parents contemplating teaching their children at home, and I guess they will always be confronted with the above accusation like I was.
