Lesson 3

a - A  'Adam ate an apple'

The third letter sound to teach is the sound as in arm, jar, far etc. To show the sound of the third letter 'a' place a solid dot over it. The solid dot symbol teaches your student that this letter sound is pronounced    as in armadillo.

Step 1:

  1. Review the previous two letters learned.

  2. Pronounce words beginning with those sounds.

  3. Show the coloured letter cards.

Step 2:

  1. Print: letter a in colour

Step 3:

  1. Show the letter to your student and pronounce the sound several times.

  2. Ask the student to repeat the letter sound several times.

  3. Pronounce words that begin with the sound (armadillos aren't apples ....).

Step 4: Print and complete the following worksheets in order:

  1. letter a worksheet

  2. the letter a

  3. the letter A

  4. print the 'alternative letter'

Step 5: Optional Biblical lesson. Read the Bible chapters indicated on the worksheet. Tracing the sentence will give your student practice in forming letters. These letters may not have been taught yet; print worksheet.
