The fantailed leatherjacket fish live in Australian oceans, mainly around Sydney. They are also known as the scribbled leatherjacket.

These fish are very slow swimming with a spine above their head. Their eyes are very large and they have a fan-like tail. They have no scales and are good eating. When they are fully grown they weigh about 500g (or1 lb).

To catch these fish you need prawns, cunjevoi or squid as bait. There are many kinds of leatherjacket fish. The scientific name is; Alutera scripta.
