Only females have
Ovaries. The ovary contains eggs or ova and produces sex hormones. In flowering plants,
the ovary containing the egg or eggs are the lower part of the carpal. Sometimes
several carpals are fused together into a compound ovary.
A human being begins life as
a fertilized egg, so small that 20 of them could fit on a pinhead. When a
girl is born she already has in her ovaries and all the egg cells she will
ever produce, more than 200,000. By the time she reaches her teens, 95% of
these have disappeared and no more than 400 ever mature. In contrast, a
man produces up to 15 million sperm in his lifetime.
