Hong Kong

China flag

Estimate population 7,153,530 - Capital City: Victoria

Hong Kong is located on the southeast coast of China at the mouth of the Pearl River delta, southeast of Canton and covers about 1,100 square kilometres (420 square miles). With its large natural deepwater harbours, a magnificent city skyline and tall mountains which rise out of the sea, it makes an ideal place for anybody's stopover. Shopping is unlimited in the overcrowded metropolis which is made up from several cities that are part of a territory, Hong Kong Island, the Kowloon peninsula, and the New Territories. Cantonese dialect of Chinese and English are official languages. Britain agreed to return sovereignty in Hong Kong to China on July 1, 1997.
