An amazingly beautiful archipelago that consists of about 700 islands and cays (pronounced as ... keys) and nearly 2,400 rock formations is the independent Commonwealth of the Bahamas. The archipelago extends about 1,200 kilometres (750 miles). The land area of the Bahamas cover approximately 13,939 square kilometres (5,382 square miles).
