Cayman Islands {UK}

estimate population 46,800 - Capital: George Town

The Cayman Islands, are a British colony in the West Indies and a group n.w. of Jamaica, consisting of Grand Cayman, Little Cayman, and Cayman Brac. The capital city of George Town is well worth visiting. The islands were discovered by Christopher Columbus in 1503 but was never really occupied by the Spaniards. It went to the British in 1670 and subsequently colonized by the English from Jamaica. It became administratively independent of Jamaica in 1962 and a constitution, providing for a governor, was enacted in 1972.
