Dominica lies in the
Caribbean Sea, between Guadeloupe and Martinique, and is an island
republic of the Lesser Antilles. A beautiful forest covered mountain
range, with the highest peak being Morne Diablotin, adorns the island.
Rivers like the Layou, Pagua, and Castle Bruce are not very usable by
large boats, small boats are therefore used instead.
Although it is said
that the volcanoes on the island are probably extinct, a number of thermal
springs and 'Boiling Lake' show signs of volcanic activity. Some
interesting wildlife includes many species of birds, the iguana, opossum,
agouti, boa constrictor, and bats.
