The beautiful Turks and Caicos Islands lie in the West Indies, southeast of the Bahamas. It consists of eight Turks islands, separated by the Turks Island Passage, from the Caicos group, which has six main islands. This small significant island measures only 500 sq km (193 sq mi). It was explored by Ponce de Leon in 1512.
