Cyprus is an island nation in the Mediterranean Sea with an area of 9,251 square kilometres (3,571 square miles).

The Troodos Mountains in the south, Kyrenia Mountains in the north, the Mesaoria Plain in between and the coastal plains that surround almost the entire country are main land features of the island. Mount Olympus is the island's highest point, located in the Troodos range, has a height of 953 metres (6,406 feet). Many castles dating from the time of the Crusades can be found in the Kyrenia Range.

Cyprus has a gorgeous Mediterranean climate. The majority of Cypriots are of Greek descent and speak Greek and make up approximately 95 percent of the total population. There are also Turkish communities on the north of the island. Greek and Turkish are the official languages. Tourism is a strong contributor to the economy.
