Latvia is one of the
three Baltic states that gained independence in 1991, from Russia. Latvian
is the official language, but Lithuanian, and Russian are also used in
this delightful country. It borders Estonia, Lithuania, Belarus, and
Russia. Fantastic sights to behold are glacial deposits, the Kurzeme
Uplands, the Vidzeme Uplands, the Latgale Uplands which contain many small
lakes, the Zemgale Plain, and the largest river Daugava, or Western Dvina.
History goes back centuries and to get a real taste of their culture one
must visit Latvia.
