From 1946 until 1991 Slovenia was one of the republics of Yugoslavia. This beautiful mountainous country with fertile valleys and exciting rivers is bordered by Italy, the Adriatic Sea, Austria, Hungary, and Croatia. Its land area is approximately 20,251 square km (7,819 square miles). If you want to learn more about the Hapsburg monarchs of the Austrian Empire, Slovenia is the place to visit.
