The beautiful Republic
of Colombia has magnificent coastlines on both the Pacific Ocean and the
Caribbean Sea. It is bordered by the Caribbean on the north, Venezuela and
Brazil on the east, Peru and Ecuador on the south, the Pacific on the
west, and Panama on the northwest. The well known Isthmus of Panama, was a
part of its territory until 1903.
Colombia's notable
outlying possession is San Andres and Providencia. These are a group of
islands approximately 800 kilometres (500 miles) from the mainland and
only about 160 kilometres (100 miles) off the eastern coast of Nicaragua.
The highest point in
Colombia is Pico Cristobal Colon, at 5,800 metres (19,020 feet)
high. Mountain ranges worth visiting are Occidental, Central, Oriental. If
