PULLING & LIFTING

A pulley is a simple machine made up of wheels. The simplest pulley system has one pulley wheel and a rope. Pulleys are used to lift heavy loads. You can experiment with a simple pulley by making one yourself from a cotton reel, a stiff wire and some string. Have a try!

You will need: stiff wire - string - cotton reel

Step 1: Thread your wire through the cotton reel and fix it in a high position.

Step 2:Thread a long piece of string around the cotton reel and tie one end around a small object such as a toy.

Step 3: Gently pull on the string and your simple pulley and rope system are ready to lift the load into the air.
